Psychoanalysis is a talking therapy that departs from the position that we are moved by unconscious processes as much as we are by conscious ones.
Our adult life is marked by traces of our early life, and whether we are aware of it or not, the past plays an important part in how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the situations we encounter.
Through the process of speaking in a psychoanalytic context, and through a specific way of listening by the analyst, the conflicts and fears that underlie our difficulties may gradually become less painful, and something previously unknown can emerge.
Psychoanalysis offers the possibility of creating a new relationship to one’s own history, not by erasing the past, but by finding new ways of understanding and relating to it.
